CHOOSE THE RIGHT C-MAP NT C-CARD,
AND SET A ROUTE FOR SAFER, MORE EFFICIENT NAVIGATION
To choose the c-card that meets your needs, just browse
the C-MAP NT catalog and ask yourself three simple
questions:
- Where do I want to navigate?
- What type of cartridge do I need?
- How much cartography do I need?
- 1. WHERE DO
I WANT TO NAVIGATE?
- C-MAP provides high quality, detailed
electronic charts for virtually every corner of the globe (and
we are adding more every day!). Simply locate the geographic
area where you intend to navigate and c-card coverage outlines
will help you to easily identify which C-MAP NT product
that offers the electronic charts you need.
- 2. WHAT TYPE
OF CARTOGRAPHY DO I NEED?
- C-MAP NT c-cards are conveniently
categorized according to different types of navigation.
-
PRECISION
c-cards offer the highest detail
electronic charts available for a specific area,
from general scale passage and approach charts to
super detailed harbor plans. These are the ideal
c-cards for navigation close to shore, providing
as much detail as possible for maneuvering in tricky
areas, in addition to a wealth of port facility
information for choosing the most adapted service
yard, or simply a good restaurant. Precision c-cards
are easy to identify by looking for the magnifying
glass in their catalog coverage outlines.
-
CRUISING
c-cards provide general and
medium scale charts for extended navigation, generally
covering much larger areas than Precision c-cards.
They are particularly useful for coastal passage
through unfamiliar territory where you probably
do not intend to lay over, but you do need enough
information to ensure safe transit. Just in case
you do need shelter though, Cruising c-cards also
contain full port facility data. Each cruising c-cards
is marked with a cruiser in its catalog coverage
outline.
-
FISHING
c-cards offer dedicated bathymetric
and/or fishing information for specific areas. The
type of data from area to area may differ depending
on what sources area available, so check with your
dealer or the nearest C-MAP office for details.
Each fishing c-card is marked with a fish in its
catalog coverage outline.
- SPECIAL
c-cards are developed for customized navigation applications,
generally from specialized data sources adapted to such applications
(i.e.: offshore installation management; search and rescue operations;
environmental monitoring; etc.) These tailor-made c-cards usually
involve in-depth planning in collaboration with customers and
dedicated chart digitizing. This investment pays off however
by facilitating the special needs of tasks that would otherwise
be slow and cumbersome without electronic charts. Please feel
free to contact C-MAP if you have a specialized application
and you think that dedicated c-cards would make a difference
to your operations.
- 3. HOW MUCH
CARTOGRAPHY DO I NEED?
- To provide you with the greatest possible
flexibility in selecting the amount of cartography best suited
to your navigation requirements (as well as your wallet); C-MAP
offers a range of pricing options. These include...
- LOCAL compositions,
which provide a limited amount of coverage around a given port
or popular navigation area. Look for the "L" next to the c-card
catalog code
- STANDARD
compositions, which represent the optimal coverage area for
medium range navigation. Look for the "S" next to the c-card
catalog code.
- WIDE compositions,
which represent enough coverage area for long range navigation.
Look for the "W" next to the c-card catalog code.
- REGIONAL Special
coverage compositions with pricing based on area and type of
cartography included. Contact your local C-MAP office for details.
Look for the "R" next to the C-Card catalog code.
- While the above descriptions are referred
to the coverage of Precision c-cards, these price classes are
also utilized for Cruising, Fishing and Special c-cards, indicating
more or less chart coverage and so pricing. Please refer to
your local C-MAP Dealer of the C-MAP Office nearest you for
corresponding prices. C-MAP publishes suggested retail prices
which should vary from area to area only due to shipping and
handling, local taxes or other special costs.
- If you have answered these questions,
and successfully located the c-card coverage outline(s) which
best suites your needs, just note the corresponding catalog
code(s) and request the latest version from your local C-MAP
Dealer or the C-MAP office nearest you.
- *Note that
C-MAP frequently updates its electronic charts as Hydrographic
Offices and other sources provide additions and/or
modifications. NT c-cards are therefore released
an average of twice each year, to ensure that you receive
the latest edition of the navigation information they
contain. Each c-card release, or version, is assigned
a progressive number to identify and distinguish it from
previous versions. Ask your dealer to ensure that
you are always supplied with the latest c-card version
available, or contact C-MAP for c-card version verification.
